Diabetes Complications.

Welcome to another blog in the series My Journey With Diabetes. This time we will take a brief look at the potential health complications related to diabetes which is not managed aggressively.
Diabetic Neuropathy
Nerve damage is a real danger to any diabetic. The American Diabetic Association reports that almost “half of all diabetics have some form of nerve damage.” As the disease progresses, it can damage the fragile blood vessels that supply the nerves leading to the body’s extremities. Extremities such as the legs, toes, and fingers. Most amputations in the U.S. are in fact due to diabetic neuropathy.
Each year, the majority of new amputations occur due to complications of the vascular system (of or pertaining to the blood vessels), especially from diabetes. These types of amputations are known as dysvascular. Although rates of cancer and trauma-related amputations are decreasing, rates for dysvascular amputations are on the rise…(more)
While it could be argued successfully that some of these amputations may not have been the only alternative, nonetheless the complication of diabetic neuropathy is a real and present danger to the diabetic. Additional forms of neuropathy include peripheral neuropathy, femoral neuropathy…(more)
The following video is presented by Dr Julian Whittaker M.D. He is one of the leading physicians actively engaged in treating and reversing diabetes. He is also the author of the book entitled “Reversing Diabetes.”

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is related to damage done to the capillaries that affect the retina of the eye. Medical evidence indicates that a high percentage of people with diabetes will get some form of diabetic retinopathy… (more) The good news is that strides are being made in the treatment of this particular condition. Of course, keeping blood sugar under control is considered an effective way to avoid such complications.
Heart Disease
Diabetics are have long been known to be prone to heart coronary heart disease (CAD). As the disease progress, blood vessels leading to the heart are weakened compromising their ability to provides life giving oxygen and nutrients to the heart. Eventually the blood supply can be interrupted or diminished enough to cause a heart attack…(more)
The sobering thought here my friends, is that managing your blood sugar effectively is the effective way to avoid many or all of these complications. Better yet, avoiding diabetes before it occurs, if at all possible is always the preferable way to go. If you believe this, then I encourage you to do as I did, and take charge of your health..TODAY.
Wishing you good health,
Patrick
