Dr. Baxter D. Montgomery helps his patients prevent and reverse disease type 2 diabetes, & prevent and reverse heart disease and reduce or eliminate medications.
First, just watch this short video introduction (a minute or so long) about Dr. Montgomery’s work. Just … watch this, and ask yourself, why hasn’t everyone learned about Dr. Montgomery, his philosophy, and his approach to medicine?
As described in the video above, Dr. Montgomery helped an 89 year old patient reverse her type 2 diabetes. He helped the 89-year-old woman who had been on insulin for FORTY years, and who was taking 22 medications, to get off the insulin within a couple of days of her having switched to a raw, whole food plant-based detox diet. She is down to taking no medications at all, and now, in her mid-nineties, she hardly ever has to come in to see Dr. Montgomery as a patient, because she remains so healthy after switching to whole food plant-based nutrition.
Over the years Dr. Montgomery has helped so many people reverse heart disease and reverse type 2 diabetes.
As shown in the video, Dr. Montgomery’s health clinic has a vegan restaurant on-site, serving delicious whole food plant-based foods, to show his patients how easy it is to be healthy and enjoy delicious foods. He also has a gym on-site at his medical health clinic.
Why aren’t the majority of medical doctors helping patients to prevent and REVERSE type 2 diabetes, reverse heart disease along with so many other chronic ailments, through such a simple solution? The solution is the food. It’s the food (the S.A.D. standard American diet) that causes these diseases, and it’s the RIGHT KIND OF FOOD — whole food plant-based nutrition — that can quickly reverse disease including type 2 diabetes and heart disease and many others.
Dr. Montgomery specializes in internal medicine, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, internal medicine, and cardiovascular disease. He also is the owner of the Houston Cardiac Association. Dr. Montgomery is a plant-based doctor who has helped his patients reverse their type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and prevent and reverse illness and disease with a whole food plant-based diet. Dr. Montgomery is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and his patients come to him with a range of conditions including type 2 diabetes, as well as arrhythmias and coronary disease.
He performs angiography, defibrillator implants, and other hospital procedures, and teaches young physicians, and for many years now Dr. Montgomery also teaches his patients how to prevent and REVERSE heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and so many other chronic diseases, all using the exact same method, switching to a whole food plant-based diet.
In 2002, at age 38, Dr. Montgomery’s cholesterol was elevated, and his mother passed away from heart disease and diabetes (as well as complications caused by the medications). This was a wake-up call that caused Dr. Montgomery to re-evaluate his own health and his understanding of and approach to medicine. He read scientific studies and books about nutrition, and changed his diet to whole food plant-based nutrition. As a result, he lowered his cholesterol dramatically. Upon seeing the many benefits he experienced for his own health, he began to incorporate nutritional education into his practice with his patients.
Upon learning about how Dr. Montgomery was helping his patients prevent and reverse heart disease, and prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes, the FOX 5 News station in Atlanta interviewed him for a segment. The news station’s focus for the interview was on Dr. Montgomery’s patients reversing diabetes. After the show aired, the phone lines went crazy. So many people were calling the Fox news station and Dr. Montgomery’s office, wanting to know how they, too, could reverse heart disease and reverse type 2 diabetes.

Get rid of insulin, control blood sugar, minimize medications, in just a few days? Sound too good to be true? Rosalee Isles did it. She was hospitalized, overweight, suffering from hypertension and high blood pressure when she met Dr. Baxter Montgomery, and he immediately put her on a special diet.
Rosalee: “Three days after I went on this diet, I was taken off the insulin, I had been on insulin since 1987. I no longer take insulin.”
Dr. Montgomery: “By getting on a plant-based diet, and getting her completely off animal flesh, it allowed us to get her off the insulin, and it allowed her to lose weight.”
Rosalee says she lost 35 pounds in two months and reversed her heart disease. This is Rosalee before the diet [shows before picture]; now at the age of 81 she is confident enough to model in fashion shows.
Rosalee: “I feel like a different person ever since I started coming to Dr. Montgomery my life has been different. I’m completely changed.”
Victor Fuller: “The dreaded scale.”
Victor Fuller [at the time, a type 2 diabetic], had just undergone his second life-saving open heart surgery when he turned to Dr. Montgomery. The diet helped him get his heat disease under better control. He no longer has type 2 diabetes, and he lost fifty pounds.
Victor: “At first, I was a little shaky, there, I didn’t want to do it, because I am a “meat and potatoes” man. But then, after he [Dr. Montgomery] told me the ins and outs of what it could do for my body, how I could cleanse my body, then I gave it a try.”
Dr. Montgomery: “The weight loss is very nice, and it’s cosmetic, but the real magic is happening “under the hood” with him. With someone with the amount of vascular disease as he has should not function nearly to the capacity as he functions, and it’s because of the lifestyle change that he has made. That’s what has gotten him to that point.”
[Victor previously was taking 13 medications, now he was down to just four.]
This plan requires some pretty serious dietary changes. Dr. Montgomery encourages people to load up on things like fresh fruit and vegetables, avoiding all animal products, he says go with:
Dr. Montgomery: “Minimally processed, whole food plant-based. I try to avoid terms such as vegetarian or vegan.”
His patients eat food as close to its natural state as possible. He suggests you shuck a corn on the cob and eat it raw or lightly steamed, to keep its nutrients. The biggest step is letting go of meat. Dr. Montgomery has another term for it.
Dr Montgomery: “[When patients have] advanced illness, one of the first things we want to do is remove animal flesh and dairy products from their system. . . .”
Since food often affects us psychologically, it may help to look at it beyond flavor or even texture.
Dr. Montgomery: “If one would eat a cheeseburger now, it would probably taste good for that moment, but from that point on, you only get the adverse effects of that cheeseburger.”
Victor and Rosalee let go of cheeseburgers, and say it works.
Rosalee: “I only put what I am supposed to eat in my refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. That’s the best way you can do it. Don’t bring anything into your house that you can’t have.”
Victor: “I thank God for the pleasure of meeting Dr. Montgomery, because he has changed my life.” – end transcript (video above).
Dr. Montgomery’s Nutritional Bootcamp: Reversing Heart Disease & Reversing Type 2 Diabetes
In 2008, Dr. Montgomery created a one-month Nutritional Bootcamp (located where he practices medicine, in Texas) to help people reverse their heart disease, reverse type 2 diabetes, reduce cholesterol, and lose weight. Dr. Montgomery’s Nutritional Bootcamps still are being offered today, and people who attend get phenomenal results, such as reversal of most chronic health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and others, reduction or elimination of the need for medications, improved work, sexual and exercise performance, significant healthcare savings and much more. Watch Dr. Montgomery’s presentation in which he offers an excellent analogy for the current chronic disease management system (aka health care)
here.
Dr. Montgomery’s analogy begins with an image of a vice wrench, and he goes on to describe a hypothetical, where someone goes to his doctor with a vice wrench tightly screwed onto his thumb, causing pain and swelling, and describes to his doctor his pain and swelling. The doctor asks if he has had any other similar pain or swelling, and whether he has ever had thumb troubles in the past. The doctor asks if anyone in his family has ever had thumb troubles. The doctor then prescribed medication to ease the pain, in increasing quantities over the weeks, causing sickness and side effects from the medications, and no relief from the vice grip that is the source of the pain. The doctor then refers the patient to other doctors to deal with the side effects caused by the medications, etc., and on an on…
In Dr. Montgomery’s “vice grip” hypothetical/analogy, instead of dealing with the CAUSE of the pain and swelling, in this case, the vice grip tightly screwed onto the thumb, this doctor is dealing only with the symptoms.
As Dr. Montgomery describes in the video above, in the case of type 2 diabetes, the cause is the FOOD, and the CURE is the RIGHT KINDS of FOOD — that is, whole food plant-based foods.
